Dear devotees, members, well-wishers, and community members,

You all know that we are facing an unprecedented challenge with the rapid spread of COVID-19 (corona virus) throughout the country. Keeping our all-round safety and intense precautionary measure in view, the Health Officer of the Alameda County Dr. Erica Pan along with six other Bay Area public health jurisdictions (Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara) issued a legal order on March 16, 2020, vide California Health and Safety Code sections 101040, 101085, and 120175, to all the respective residents directing all individuals living in the county to shelter at their place of residence except that they may leave to provide or receive certain essential services or engage in certain essential activities and work for essential businesses and governmental services. The order further says, ‘All businesses and governmental agencies to cease non-essential operations at physical locations in the county, prohibiting all non-essential gatherings of any number of individuals and cessation of all non-essential travel’.
This Order shall become effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 17, 2020 and will continue to be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 7, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the Health Officer.
Violation of or failure to comply with this Order is a misdemeanor punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both. (California Health and Safety Code § 120295, et seq.)
Based on the emergency legal order, mentioned above, Vedanta Society Berkeley canceled all activities at Berkeley center and San Jose House until further notice. This includes Sunday morning lectures and Thursday evening class at Berkeley, and Wednesday evening meditation session and Sunday evening lectures at San Jose center. Please note that Annual General Body Meeting that was scheduled on Sunday, March 22, 2020, is also canceled until further notice.
