Fourth of July Spiritual Retreat 2019

The Vedanta Society Berkeley conducted a day long Spiritual Retreat celebrating and honoring Swami Vivekananda on Thursday, Fourth of July 2019, at the sanctuary of the Vedanta Society Berkeley.

A total of 200 people attended the retreat and spent the entire day in a serene, spiritual mood that was created by the Society with different programs. They enjoyed inspiring lectures, meditation session, and spiritual musical offerings. Good lunch and refreshments were also served to the participants.

The theme of the spiritual retreat was 'Spiritual Way of Facing the World'. All the speaker swamis Sw. Atmavidyananda from Vedanta Society Southern California, Sw. Satyalokananda from Ramakrishna Mission Center, Singapore, Sw. Vedananda and Sw. Tattwamayananda from Vedanta Society of Northern California, Sw. Prapannananda and Sw. Ishadhyanananda from Vedanta Society of Sacramento, and Sw. Prasannatmananda from Vedanta Society Berkeley spoke on the ways of dealing with the challenges of the world with a spiritual mindset.

The devotees of the Berkeley and San Jose centers created a befitting meditative environment by offering Vedic chanting, Sanskrit Hymns, and chorus songs. Renowned singer Sumita Chakraborty led the music choir consisting of Karuna, Tanuja, Reshmi, Lovely, Neelanjana, Nabaneeta, Indira, Soumya, Prasun, Chitto, Mohan, Pinaki, Nilotpal, and Gangadhar, accompanied by Amitabha Ghosh on the tabla. The students of AROHI School of Music and SURANJALI School of Music further helped to build the spiritual atmosphere of the day. Pinaki Mukherjee recited 'To The Fourth of July' composed by Swami Vivekananda. The retreat concluded with the chorus song 'Ramakrishna Sharanam'. Tridha performed the role of MC. Sw. Prasannatmananda, Swami-In-Charge, Vedanta Society Berkeley welcomed all in the beginning and conveyed thanks to all at the end. All who attended enjoyed the day-long event.
Swami Vivekananda:
Always Alive

My Master taught that religion is one; all prophets teach the same, but they can only present the principle in a form; so, they take it out of the old form and put it before us in a new one. When we free ourselves from name and form, especially form a body—when we need not a body, good or bad --- then only do we escape from bondage.
